We’re continuing with our teaching series that’s called “The Call Of God.” This is Lesson four and it’s called “The Ministry Of The Prophet.” Our lesson explores the biblical role, characteristics, and evaluation of prophets across both the Old and New Testaments. Originating as divine mouthpieces to guide Israel, instruct believers, warn against sin, and foretell future events, prophets are sovereignly called by God and operate strictly under the Holy Spirit's guidance. In the New Testament, while believers may operate in the gift of prophecy for edification, comfort, and instruction, prophets maintain orderly self-control during worship, remaining subject to church order and apostolic authority. Because human instruments are fallible and susceptible to misleading influences—whether from human self-interest or demonic forces—our teaching today emphasizes that all prophetic activity must be carefully tested against Scripture, the accuracy of its predictions, the prophet's Christ-like character, and their confession of Jesus Christ.
