From our new series, lesson one is called “The Effectual Call Of God.” Grounded entirely in sovereign grace rather than human merit, God's call is an eternal, Trinitarian masterwork through which the Father chooses, the Son redeems, and the Holy Spirit seals believers into His family. Written by the Apostle Paul during his Roman imprisonment to ground the Ephesians in their vast theological identity, this divine summons transforms the ancient concept of a master's command into an intimate, irreversible act of adoption. While the general call of the gospel is proclaimed universally to all humanity, the Spirit works through an inward, effectual call to overcome natural human resistance, awakening the will to freely choose Christ and become a transformed "new creation." This unbreakable theological reality—harmonizing God's absolute control with human accountability and volition—is not a license to sin, but a targeted, purposeful summons to personal holiness and bold evangelism. Ultimately, because our identity is secured by the objective work of Christ and verified by the indwelling witness of the Holy Spirit, believers can live with absolute assurance, free from fear and grounded on an eternal foundation.
