We’re a continuing with our study that’s called “Ethics And Excellence In Life Series.” This is Lesson Five and it’s called “Sermon On The Mount Ethics Part 3” In our study on Christian Ethics, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus elevates righteousness from mere external legalism to an internal transformation of the heart, calling believers to embody an extraordinary, Christ-like character defined by grace and pure motives. Rather than seeking personal retaliation or strictly insisting on legal rights—as illustrated through turning the cheek, surrendering one's cloak, and walking the second mile—true righteousness demands practicing forbearance, patience, and radical love toward all people, including enemies. Furthermore, Jesus shifts focus to the intent behind religious deeds like giving, warning that actions driven by a desire for human recognition forfeit divine rewards. Ultimately, authentic Christian virtue must flow spontaneously and self-forgetfully from a hidden, sincere desire to please God rather than oneself, serving as a distinct reflection of the Heavenly Father's perfection.
