300_Covenant Between Friends_Blood Covenant of Christ_Lsn 04_Student.pdf We’re continuing with our study that’s called The Blood Covenant of Christ Series. This is Lesson Four and it’s called “The Covenant Between Friends.” The covenant between David and Jonathan was a profound, life-altering agreement between two friends who, despite their conflicting family backgrounds, shared a singular devotion to God's will. Unlike the biological or political ties of the time, this "cut" covenant established a bond as strong as blood, symbolized by Jonathan gifting David his royal robes and weapons to signify a total exchange of identity, assets, and protection. This sacred oath extended beyond their lifetimes, eventually rescuing Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth, from a life of fear, poverty, and misinformation in the desert of Lodebar. Though Mephibosheth felt unworthy and lived in terror of the king, David honored the ancient agreement by restoring his inheritance and seating him at the royal table as a prince, demonstrating that the benefits of the covenant were based entirely on the original promise rather than Mephibosheth’s own merit or status. God honors the word given in agreements and covenants, as He is a covenant-keeping God who expects integrity in human commitments. Biblically, keeping one's word—even at personal cost—is seen as a reflection of His character, with promises serving as binding, sacred bonds. God takes our commitments, words, and relationships seriously, placing high value on your covenant faithfulness.
