Sermon 317_Ascension Our Call to Witness_Journey To Pentecost Series_M4_Handout.pdf Scriptures: Acts 1:1-11 Today, we’re continuing with our sermon series that’s called “A Journey to Pentecost,” and it points us toward the Day of Pentecost, the day the church began. This is our fourth message, and its entitled “The Ascension: Our Call to Witness.” The ascension of Jesus marks not the conclusion of His work, but a strategic transition into the Church’s mission. Rather than an abandonment, the ascension serves as a royal coronation where Jesus assumes His authority at the right hand of God, transitioning the responsibility of the Great Commission to us, His followers. Empowered by the Holy Spirit rather than their own strength, believers are called to move beyond the comfort of their immediate surroundings—from their "Jerusalem" to the "ends of the earth"—to serve as living witnesses of His grace. Ultimately, the story of the ascension is a call to trade idle observation for urgent action, living with the confidence that the reigning King will one day return.
